The tales of a female sculptor venturing into an unexplored aspect of artistry and creating a whole new dimension to fine art are told in the pages of My Hyperrealist Life and Legacy by Carole A. Feuerman. It is an autobiography that explores Carole’s journey as a professional female artist. It narrates the family struggles, problems, and challenges she encounters. It is an account of her blossoming into a woman with an uncanny ability to sculpt in a way no one else has dared to; life-like sculptures with a specialty in creating water droplets. A young girl without her parents’ love transforms into a celebrity hyperrealistic sculptor. She tells her story to celebrate her art.

The book has a lot of positive aspects to it. The author highlights core virtues and values necessary to achieving our dreams, goals, and ambitions in life. One of the most dominant virtues is passion. Carole exhibits a passion for her art as a part of her, quite inseparable from her being. Art is a savior for her. An escape in times her parents were never supportive or caring, through her divorce, catering for her sister’s needs, and through the pandemic, art has always been an escape for her. The hyperrealistic artworks she paints are proof of this. The enthusiasm she uses to describe what art means to her in the lines of this book would leave the readers enamored.

Asides from the passion. She sends a message of perseverance, determination, hard work, and persistence. Right from the dedication, these virtues were already brought to the reader’s attention. Despite her rejection by a celebrity artist at an early stage of her career, two hand surgeries, fighting cancer, discrimination against women in the art industry, and being disowned by her parents, she kept at it, never giving up. Her autobiography shows her practical demonstration of these virtues in her life and the heights it has taken her.

Readers are forced to identify with such a strong character and personality. As a mother, grandmother, wife, and artist, she preaches to women, empowers them, and seeks to use her works, art, and books to show the strength of every woman. She changed the narrative and raised the bar higher when she became the only woman able to sculpt hyperrealistic artworks. Carole also highlighted the need for self-mastery by learning about astrology. She was ready to cross any hurdle that might stand between her and her dreams.

Also, the pictorial illustrations she included in her book had a tremendously positive effect. Some were pictures of her family or friends, and others were her works. The photos of some of her sculpts would help the readers better appreciate them and relish the beauty. Also, the tone of the book is soft, encouraging, and reassuring. it to be so.

The book is highly motivational and filled with evident passion. I recommend this book to those trying to follow their dreams and desirous of fulfilling them, whether artistic or not.

The author’s most valuable lessons came from her grandparents, whereas her parents were often emotionally and physically unavailable. Perhaps, the author suggests, her ability to overcome difficulties in her career and personal life was predestined by the combination of planets at the time of her birth. What had kept her constantly pushing forward was a belief in her talent. From illustrations to sculpture, the book describes every detail of Carole A. Feuerman’s way, filled with hardships and rejection because of her gender – until she was recognized as one of the founders of hyperrealism in art.

I had no idea how much she had been through and survived: a battle with breast cancer, a home fire that left her with little, the way she was treated by her male counterparts as she rose to fame, and how resilient she was in the face of a plethora of talent. Each chapter offers tremendous insight into how to navigate the art world for young professionals, and, in its final chapters, what art means in this post-Covid world. Great read!
